2006 is FINALLY here! Here’s to hoping 2006 is going to be our best year ever. I have a lot of catching up to do (2200+ posts to read in NetNewsWire). The week off was great and I am recharged and ready for what the new year has to offer. Normal posting will resume immediately, but will probably be a little slow until I catch up with all the news from the past week. I hope everyone had a safe and fun holiday.

Offline for the holidays…
Hello everyone. Just a quick note to let everyone know that we are going to be taking a little time off during the upcoming week while we go on holiday. I may blog a few things and have them ready to publish at a later date, but don’t count on anything much for the rest of 2005. We are also taking this opportunity to xfer to a new web hosting company. Things may be a little out of whack, if so – you know why. Hopefully things won’t be too hard to port to the new servers. I wish everyone a happy holiday and new year. 2006 is going to be great…I can just feel it!

NASCAR Weekend
Back from the fun and excitement in Homestead this weekend. I posted some pics on my FlickR site of the events. For the first night, it was looking pretty bad with some heavy rain looming overhead and the threat of a tropical storm hitting us by Monday. The Friday night races were insane, tried to start about 4 times and every time we came within half a lap of going green, the rain opened up again. They finally called the race and decided to run it at 8:30am the following morning…. Busch and Nextel cup practice and qualifying went without a hitch and soon we were racing…. The Cup race couldn’t have asked for a better finish with my Roush Racing guys going neck and neck to the end.. All 5 of my Roush Teams finished in the top 10 and 4 were in the top 5!

Post Hurricane Wilma: All Services Restored
Still have some minor things to deal with, but overall, we can resume life and try to get this mess cleaned up and fixed back to it’s original condition. I’m not quite sure why, but it seems that my dryer and dishwasher had issues with the hurricane…. A vast majority of people down here are still without power, much less phones and DSL. The fuel situation seems to have calmed down and it’s becoming easier to find fuel…. I drove 40 miles across Alligator Alley through the Everglades to the Big Cypress Indian Reservation to get gas. Considering the drive was pretty quick, incredibly scenic and there was no waiting in line, and no $20 limit on gas – it was well worth it. It’s a little-known hidden secret that’s worth keeping in your memory bank for the future…. hopefully FP&L will get to you soon…in the mean time…you are welcome at my place!

We are still chuggin along here trying to pick up the pieces. All is going well and we finally got power a few hours ago. Still no phone and sporadic cell service. Thankfully my mom and brother-in-law have been fully restored and I have been able to mooch warm meals and Internet accecss from them. [...]

Hurricane Wilma beats our ass…
The complete set of pics can be found on my FlickR site…. We currently have no power, no phone, no cell service and limited water. Overall, we fared well compared to many others in my area. FPL is telling us it could be up to 4 weeks before power is fully restored. Luckily my brother-in-law and mother have had their power restored in their respective areas. Looks like we’ll be hoppin back and forth between home and the family…. Other folks have been hit much harder…. Anyone need an Apple Systems Engineer in a state WITHOUT recurring natrural disasters?
