Open Letter to XM Radio

Hello XM, I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know you ALMOST had me. I say almost, because I had already made up my mind to go buy your gear and service this week, until I read what you had done with your PC side of the service. You have done yourselves and the public a disservice with your unfounded fear of piracy.

I absolutely refuse to contribute a penny to any organization that sides with the RIAA and their gestapo bullying tactics to the very consumers that are the core foundation of the music industries business. There are genuine good hearted people with a legit need or reason to record a show. You see...as a SUBSCRIBER to your service, it is OUR RIGHT to record those shows for OUR listening pleasure on OUR schedule, not yours. IF I am paying for a service, I expect to be able to listen to it at my leisure and not be TOLD when I can or can't listen.

The problem with your company and the RIAA is that you want your cake and you want to eat it too. Well XM, I am here to tell you, that you aren't going to get it from me, or millions of other technology-oriented and educated consumers. I for one am taking a stand and fighting for my right to fair-use. There is abslutely no difference between recording a song from the free airwaves of America and recording a song or show from your service, other than QUALITY. So you mean to tell me that because the service, for once, actually sounds great, we lose our rights to make fair-use recordings for PERSONAL use? We aren't talking about pirating here, we are simply asking to be able to listen to what we paid for at a time of our chosing. You people need a reality check. You are every bit as bad as the RIAA. Good luck with your service. I for one will be exploring Sirius and if they are smart, they will capitalize on your ignorance and lack of loyalty and customer service to the very people you depend on for your livelihood.
