360 horror stories
This is so typical. I must say, this is nothing short of what I would expect from MSFT. Anyone who knows me knows that I really dislike anything Microsoft, but the exception to the rule has been the XBOX. This really pisses me off. Not only do they make a cluster f$ck of the launch by pissing off half the world due to their stupid marketing tactics, but to actually be one of the few who gets one and then after paying all that money for it to crash on you? Wow, pissed off is not even close the profanities that would be flying out of my mouth.

Seems like the launch hasn't gone as smoothly as expected. Not only are there shortages, and a lot of frustrated would-be customers, several of those who did manage to get their hands on a 360 are reporting failures.
The most common problem is overheating, with hard drive errors also occurring for some unlucky owners. 3D glitching has also been reported, although rebooting seems to fix it. Keep the stories coming, folks!

my only real xbox360 horror was when i purchased it. i was told the only way i could buyit was if i bought six games with it. which i think is a disgrace. and without mentioning names i tell you now it was a part of one of the biggest games sores in the uk. They were basically using the stock shortage to sell crappy games. ITS A SAD DAY WHEN RETAILERS PUSH FOR THAT BIT OF EXTRA CASH OVER HONESTY!

Fuck i am so close to returing my 360 and saving my money for the ps3! my system seems to be overheating so bad that the disc mealt!, and i dont know what to say. I am disapointed because i thought that misc could make a good system but they just showed that they fucked up uneder pressure!.

i have my on running for hours. I even left it on for 2 days. Anyways , i didnt notice that much overheating but i did notice some major errors on 3D. Picture freezes and there is some crap pixels covering the whole screen.And there is some weird sounds following picture freezes. It sounds like something is cracking and sound of the game comes in between the cracking.

"Horror Story" doesn't even come close to my experience with the Xbox360. I purchased my xbox on the launch date in Novemeber and happily played it for a year and three months when all of a sudden all it would do was flash 3 red lights. Enraged with Microsoft i quickly dialed 18004myxbox only to discover my warranty ran out 3 months earlier and that it would cost me 139 bucks. Completley pissed, I promptly cussed the little Asian woman and proceded to research a fix myself. That's when i came upon the heat gun/thermal compound route. Reluctant to pay Microshit for their mistake i quickly disassembled the unit, heat gunned it, and applied new thermal compound. SUCCESS!! ahh, but it was shortlived. Not even a week later I went to pop in COD2 and again...red lights. Yet again i took it apart and 'fixed' it for another three days. AFter doing this process 7 times i was out of arcticsilver5 and fed up. Now the POS is sitting in my floor collecting dust. I am currently thnking of a creative way to destroy it...any suggestions?

Sorry for you and the many others who have had so many problems. I know it doesn't help much, but Microsoft IS listening and it might be worth a try to contact them again. I know first hand that they have made many exceptions for people with Launch Day consoles. It can't hurt to try. I just got an Elite 360 and bought it using my AMEX card which effectively doubled the warranty on the box. If you resort to buying another one, you might want to consider using an AMEX card which doubles the warranty at no extra cost. Or if you get the old one fixed, then if it dies, again, you are covered for more than the standard length of time if you pay with AMEX. Keep us posted...

Rejoice! Microsoft has now stated that the warrenty on all 360's since launch have been extended to THREE YEARS! and the people who paid for the repairs earlier will be paid back. Don't destroy your console!

xbox 360 is a total heat seeking piece of crap and microsoft knew it when they sold it to us. they replaced my first console due to rings of death and sent me another one that died in 120 days ... the warranty on the replacement was 90 days ... wonderful! Its ok though because I have guitars, rock band gear, accessories, controllers and 3 dozen games to take to gamestop and trade for PS3 games and gear. I'll never buy another game system from them.
