Bad political moves may have crashed laptop plan
And now an update on the continuing laptop saga in Cobb County, GA. It is becoming more and more apparent that this entire mess is nothing more than a feeble attempt at railroading the current Superintendent of Cobb's school district. This poor guy is getting hammered by people, NOT because of the laptop program, but because he spoke too soon about the planned magnitude of the program. Forget about the fact that Cobb was going to roll out the school in a handful of pilot schools and evaluating the results before gradually proceeding with additional schools. This was simply a pissed off former county commissioner on a witch hunt.
The real shame here is that they have hurt the very students these "parents" are claiming they want to help. To emphasize the level of stupidity within this district, here is a comment from an East Cobb mother:
East Cobb mother Susan Halpert, who was flabbergasted at the laptop program's cost, would like to see attention get back to simpler needs in the schools. The boys' bathroom at Walton High School, one of Cobb's finest, often has no hand soap, Halpert said.
"Before there are laptops given out to everyone," she said, "I'd like for there to be soap in the bathrooms."
So lets summarize that real quick...this parent would rather have SOAP in the bathroom, than to have a laptop for their child to help bring their education into the 21st century. Hey lady...have you ever heard of those waterless liquid soap bottles that you can drop in your kids backpack? What an idiot. That pretty much summarizes the general public residing in Cobb County, GA. Amazing. Absolutely amazing.

Maybe this east cobb snob has looked at the cost benefit analysis of the cost of provided hand soap to a bathroom in walton to the cost of providing thousands of students with apple laptops. I would assume that this parent would rather have smaller but more important daily necessities in her son's school.

So you are telling me that you need $60 Million dollars worth of soap? Maybe if you took your head out of your ass long enough to see the long term benefit to your children, you could understand that society cannot continue to teach todays youth using the same methods used in this country for the last 100+ years. This is a new era with a much more advanced generation. Our kids are much smarter than we ever were at such young ages and they have the ability to multi-task in ways that are critical for success in todays corporate environments. These kids are DIGITAL NATIVES. You are a DIGITAL IMMIGRANT. You cannot teach these kids the same way you were taught when you were a child. It is insane. How about doing a cost analysis on THAT?
