Apple, Sony among those named in new DRM lawsuit

Ahhhh...the stupidity tirade continues full force. This one is pretty interesting as it seems to be legit. The problem I am having is....how does a foreign national have the right to file a patent (or anything for that matter) in the United States? I am no attorney and totally ignorant to patent and trademark law, but it just seems silly that we let any idiot around the world file for anything here in the US. Does this mean I can go to Hong Kong and file for a patent over there? I say give him a nickel and tell him to have a coke and a smile and shut the fuck up!

I agree. Invalidate all patents with the names of foreign nationals on them. Starting with those bearing the name of a certain Mr Jonathan Ive. :)

Seriously, anyone living and working legally in the US can file a patent, just as they can own property etc. Nothing wrong with that - it's the way most of the world works. No need to get your underwear in a twist over it.

Hahaha. Ok, it might sound like I got my panties in a twist over it, but you kind of hit on the main point. I don't mind if a foreign national is here in the US legally. But this particular guy lives and works in Hong Kong and as far as I can tell, is not a US citizen (although the article did not state that either way). All he did was hire some attorney here in the states to handle the case for him. It's hard enough keeping up with the patent, copyright and trademark submissions here in the US. Can you imagine having to search and look for the same all over the globe? That just sounds ludicrous to me. Maybe I should sue the Albanian that decided to use my family name for his website, even though he isn't a desendant of my family. :-)
