« Robert Scoble: Microsoft FUD Monkey on Crack | Main | Another switcher about to see the light... »

We've been Scobelized!

Well, I have to at least give Scoble some credit where credit is due. He read my post and took the time to at least respond in a cordial manner. Pretty cool. I think he has gotten the point about hammering the Mac crowd too hard with stuff that isn't totally accurate. I can't imagine the amount of flames he has gotten over this one single post. You can read my response to his comment here.

More incoming flames...:

Frank, on bisonium.com (a Mac advocacy site): "His postings are sometimes amusing, but more often idiotic rants about things he knows very little or nothing about." One correction Frank: I never delete comments. Don't know what you're talking about there.

D'Arcy Norman: Scoble: Unsubscribed. "He’s been an interesting source of info and opinion, but he's also afflicted with a strong case of braggadocio regarding "secrets" that he’s privy to. That pisses me off."

It's my job to get you to know about things that are coming. By warning the blogosphere that something was coming people knew where to come for information. That's key in this new world of uncontrollable PR.

You've given Scoble credit for learning something (may or may not be true). Maybe you could learn something too.

If you could go back in time and re-write your "FUD monkey on crack" post, would you write it differently? Even if Scoble didn't link it?

I visited here from Scoble's blog, but I won't be back. From this one post it is apparent (may or may not be generally true) that your writing is juvenile, reactionary, self-aggrandizing, cliche-ridden and generally the kind of garbage that gives Mac zealots a bad name. You accuse Scoble, who gets flamed constantly by your betters, of deleting your comments because you "hammer him with facts." *chortle* Yeah, that must be it.

Here's a tip: when you go beyond fisking to insult and rant for seven paragraphs, and the subject of said rant responds politely, and you pull a 180 to reply in a civil fashion, it means your original rant was cowardly. Either skip the puerile rant in the first place, or stick to your guns and wear the "juvenile reactionary zealot" label proudly. Nobody likes a waffler, especially not the demographic that would read the blog of a juvenile reactionary zealot.

I'm a Mac zealot who enjoys reading Scoble's point of view, even though he's got one leg tied to his PR desk, and even though I generally despise MS products. His response to your flame-bait was, essentially: "Did I hear something? A gnat, maybe?" And that was more than it deserved.

Why am I not suprised that two worlds would collide? I'd just like to comment that I'm still totally happy having switched to a powerbook. My powerbook is a thin, durable, light, not a single glitch, extremely impressive piece of machinery running an operating system that's beyond anything else available and probably the single most advanced operating system in the world, that completely syncs to my symbian java enabled bluetooth phone all my contacts and calendar info and music to my iPod. Why do I really need a tablet pc, a tower, or a ....ehem... watch?

The thing is, is why do I really need to wrap myself in a the Microsoft bubble that I can't get out of? Why not free myself of the bubble so that I can use technologies that talk to each other?

Don't call me a switcher or any of that Apple PR bullshit. I am an escapee, plain and simple.

Well Splashman,

This is the beauty of having a blog and free speech. How I chose to word my response is obviously my perrogative. Isn't that the purpose of having a blog? I'm not writing for MacWorld here. If I were, then yes - that would warrant a more professional "article". but this was NOT an article for mass consumption.

Would I re-write my original post? NO. I still think Scoble needs to present a more human face to those whom he is trying to convince that Microsoft is * NOT * the evil empire. I am one of those people who he is targeting. Rather than state unfactual or pointless claims, he needs to make valid points and make them in a way that gets people like me to say "hmmmmm, maybe he has a point." On that front, he failed miserably. His job isn't to stroke the millions of Microsoftees who already drank the kool-aid. Looks to me like you are a closet Microsoftee or just a troll looking for flames. In either case, you have the right to your opinion.

The fact remains that my comments have not made it to his blog on more than one occasion. Whether due to technical issues or not, it's irrelevant. So please spare me your feeble attempt at being the rightous almighty Mac zealot. I am pretty certain that the 100,000+ page visits a month to my site is not because I am politically correct.

Maybe you think your a psycologist, here's a hint...you're not. I responded to Scoble in a polite manner because he was man enough to take his licks and remain cool about it. That is more than I can say for a lot of people (myself included on many occasions). So because I didn't reply like an asshole that makes me a coward? Gimme a break. It was just being a decent person. Now if he would have replied in the way I deserved it, that would be an entirely different post!

This here blogger might eat waffles for breakfast, but I am no waffler. I still stand by my guns that Microsoft sucks and that's all there is to it. Scoble had a delusional moment and I saw it fit to correct his momentary insanity. If you don't like it, well...go read another blog, I promise not to cry over the loss.
