Toyota to Unveil Faster, More Powerful Prius Hybrid

priusgt-thumb.jpg imageToyota is prepping a new "Sport" version of its gasoline/electric hybrid Prius that ups the available power of the combustion engine from 77 hp to a whopping 99 hp by increasing the displacement of the engine to 1.5 liters, and bolsters the electrical system for a new total rating of 145 HP. Toyota plans to unveil the sportier Prius at the late September Paris Motor show, along with an ultra-clean Diesel concept.

Can you just imagine how fast a hybrid V8 would be? Or maybe a turbocharged V12 hybrid? Or - oh my god - a rocket-powered hybrid.

Update: Reader David Charles sends word that Toyota has given the greenlight to its 408-horsepower "Volta" hybrid sports car concept, as well. That's just insane. Toyota may be more serious about hybrids than I thought.

Update update: It's all ass.
