More people use Apple Macs than you think; 8-12 percent of homes use Macs

The reason you never hear about the small market share of other companies is because the comparison is not valid. In the desktop operating software category, there are only two companies competing for market share -- Windows and Apple OS (linux, in desktop form, is not a viable competitor at this point). In this market, Apple owns 5-10% and MS owns 90-95%. In the automobile market, however, there are many more competitors each owning a much smaller percentage of the total market.

A more valid comparison would be a situation in which BMW was the only foreign car sold in America, and it had a 10% market share. In this situation, you could say that domestic automobiles dominate the market in the same way MS dominates the desktop OS market.
